(KRON) -- Two people were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Hayward on Monday, according to Mark Salinas, the mayor of the city of Hayward.
In a post to social media, the Alameda County Immigration Legal Education Partnership (ACILEP) confirmed that four ICE officers were spotted in plain clothes and carrying visible weapons near A and Filbert Streets in Hayward around 7:15 a.m.
ACILEP said two people were arrested.

The mayor of Hayward confirmed this in a social media post on Monday, saying, "Through legal sources, I have confirmed that ICE is the agency responsible for the detention of the individual or individuals involved."
Both the mayor and ACILEP say they are working to connect with the individuals who were detained to provide legal support and assistance.
"I recognize the fear, uncertainty, and distress that incidents like this create, not only for the families directly affected, but for our neighborhoods and our entire Hayward community. It is deeply troubling that families and neighbors must experience this," said Salinas.
